Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport (BHM)

Overview

Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport (BHM) is a key airport for central Alabama, and serves well over three million passengers per year. The airport is situated just five miles (8km) from downtown Birmingham in Alabama. Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport mainly provides connections to destinations within the United States, such as Miami, Houston, Dallas, Detroit, Chicago, New Orleans and Charlotte. Birmingham airport is blessed with famously friendly staff, and displays an interesting collection of public art throughout the terminal building, with the best pieces being contributions from internationally renowned artist Larry Kirkland.

Location

The airport is conveniently located about six miles (9km) from Birmingham's downtown business district.

Getting to the city

Several shuttle services, including the Meteors Shuttle and the Birmingham Door to Door, operate between the airport and the city, but reservations must be made prior to arrival. Taxi services are available 24 hours a day at ground level outside the baggage claim area.

Mobile Regional Airport (MOB)

Location

Mobile Regional Airport is located 12.5 miles (20km) west of central Mobile.

Getting to the city

The Airport Boulevard connects the airport to the city of Mobile and taxis and rental cars are readily available. Several door-to-door shuttle services are also available and these can be pre-booked. Some hotels offer airport pick-ups.

Montgomery Regional Airport (MGM)

Location

Montgomery Airport is located seven miles (11km) southwest of Montgomery.

Getting to the city

The cheapest mode of transport from the airport into the city is the Montgomery Area Transit bus. The station is right outside the terminal and services run hourly during the week between 5.55am and 7.55pm, and roughly every 1 hour and 40 minutes on Saturdays between 7.55am and 5.55pm. Many hotels offer airport shuttles and shuttle bus services and taxis are also available at the airport.

Dothan Regional Airport (DHN)

Location

Dothan Airport is situated seven miles (12km) northwest of Dothan.

Getting to the city

There is no public transport to the airport. However, taxis operate within airport hours and there are rental cars available.

Huntsville International Airport (HSV)

Location

Huntsville Airport is located 10 miles (16km) southwest of downtown Huntsville.

Getting to the city

Taxis and airport shuttle buses are parked outside the baggage claim area. Many hotels in Huntsville offer airport shuttle services for their guests. Currently there are no public buses or trains to Huntsville Airport.
