The Ohioan climate is continental, and therefore usually mild, with a cool and sometimes rainy spring, and warm summers with some humidity. Autumn tends to be cool, while winters are cold with snowfall. The southern part of the state is the warmest, with the least frost, while the eastern highland areas tend to be colder, especially in winter. May to October is the wettest period in Ohio, with more than 50 percent of the annual rainfall occurring in that time. July is the height of summer, with average temperatures of about 77°F (25°C), though higher temperatures are not uncommon. January is the coldest month, with temperatures dropping to about 33°F (1°C). Fall is perhaps the best time to travel to Ohio, as conditions are usually pleasantly moderate.
