Oklahoma's climate is often as diverse as its terrain. Temperatures can vary from region to region, and the weather can shift rapidly. In general, with the exception of the far northwest, which is semi-arid, the state has a mild, humid climate. Spring and autumn are perhaps the best times to visit; in spring, the days are warm, although thunderstorms are common, while in autumn, the days are pleasantly cool, dry and full of sunshine. Winters can be quite cold at times, and summers are usually very hot.
