Do South African passport holders need a visa for the Dominican Republic?

Sep 26th 2008
Hi Jessica,

South African nationals require only a passport. No visa is required for stays of up to 30 days, provided travellers hold a Tourist Card (which costs US$10 and is issued on arrival).

Thanks but a visa company blade express 011 262 2089 says clients have to go and get the visa in London and it takes 12 weeks????? And the GSA do you have a telephone number for the embassy?

Maybe try contacting the embassy directly for clarity in this matter. My information is that South Africans do not require a visa when visiting the Dominican republic.

what does the following mean?
All visitors must hold sufficient funds to cover period of intended stay,

as well as an onward or return ticket to country of permanent residence

and documents required for next destination.

Hi Debbie

The 'sufficient funds' condition is to ensure that visitors can support themselves financially over the course of their visit. They will typically ask for a bank statement or credit record as proof to this effect. Similarly, you need to produce a ticket (onward or return) and any other backing documents to support that you do intend leaving the country after your visit. These measures are to ensure that visitors follow the conditions of their visa and that the government does not have to foot the bill for your return by deporting you.

In practice these rules are seldom enforced if you have a hotel booking and return ticket.

Hi,
There is the island of Dominica which is between two French islands Guadeloupe and Martinique in the Lesser Antilles (West Indies), natives speak English. No visa needed for here, and this page is totally about this one.
There is also another country in the Greater Antilles Called the Dominican Republic, this one is near Jamaica and Puerto Rico they speak Spanish and a visa may be needed to enter
