My boyfriend and I am planning on going to Cameroon on holiday in January. We were wondering how safe it is for an American couple to go traveling around the country, and perhaps visit the Congo area.

Cameroon is one of the most peaceful countries on the continent. However, same can not be said of the Congo area. Therefore, my candid advice will be that you guys take normal precautions and maybe hire a recommended local guide for the Congo leg of your journey.
