I am planning a holiday for June, we usually go to Greece but feel we have done it now and also the Euro means its not as cheap as it used to be. We are now thinking about going on holiday to Croatia in June instead. I am travelling with my boyfriend and we're both quite seasoned travellers but want advice on suggested itineries, cheap flights there, where to go in Croatia and how to get around. One friend who has been there suggested booking a flight and the first couple of nights accommodation and then playing it by ear - but I would prefer a more organised itinerary and the comfort of knowing we wont be sleeping on the street! Keen on the beach and island hopping, but also a bit of sightseeing. Thanks in advance for any help!

There is plenty of accomodation in the main cities even if you have to stay at a hostel in one of their single rooms, peronsally I would book friday and saturday nights in advance and book other nights closer to the time when you know where you'll be. There is so much choice and so many places to go including all the stunning secluded islands that you will definitly need to be flexible and hence booking a set itinerary would restrict you. I would reccomend going to Dubrovnik and walking around the old town, even having dinner there is an experience. You must also go to Split and Zadar. It is an amazing country. Come june/july I will be going there myself again because of how beautiful it is!

Hi SuzieJ,
Croatia is not so crowded in June so I don’t think you will have any problems to find accommodation in that period. U really don’t need to book anything in advance, maybe you will spend little more time to find accommodation in this way but it shouldn’t be big problem. Best way to do it is to find some tourist agency in the town that you are in, and ask them to find you accommodation, or find some internet cafe and try to find accommodation via pages like hostelworld. This also shouldn’t be a problem, because, as I said before, Croatia isn’t so crowded with tourists at June. About itineraries I suggest that you make a route ether from Dubrovnik to Zadar, (stop in Split), or reverse. From these 3 cities you have good ferry connections to surrounding islands (I can recommend islands Hvar, Vis, Korcula, Sipan, Lopud, Mljet). If you want to feel more comfortable you can book accommodation in first town you visiting, and then play by the ear as your friend said. I wish you nice vacation and good luck!

Yes, it will.

Just be sure to check out websites like www.direct-croatia.com/ and other direct contact catalogs.

You can save a lot by arranging it directly with property owner, tourist agency provisions are up to 50% for some accommodations in Croatia.
