Is mid-August a good time to visit Pompeii, Isle of Capri, Sorrento?

    Is mid-August a good time to visit the Sorrento coast area and Pompeii and Capri? I've heard many Italians are on holiday then, if so, are many local places closed? Or is it high tourist season and would be very crowded and busy? I notice many package operators do not have any trips scheulded there in August.

    it is really high season- hotels will be expensive and probably full
    if you are traveling after the 20th it will be easier.

    probably the reason why many package operators do not have any trips scheulded in Sorrento in August is because Sorrento hotels in high season doesn't give any allotments: they haven't any difficulty in selling their rooms directly, and don't need to be sold by tour operators.
