Do South Africans need a visa for the Dominican Republic

My partner and I travelled to the dominican several years ago - I am a UK citizen he is South African. I needed a tourist card which I got on arrival he had to have a visa which was pre organised beofre our trip costing around £100. Is this still, the case - I have seen a website that says South Africans now only need the same tourist card required by UK people.

Anyone help??
