Traveling to D.R. Congo

I am traveling to Bukavu, D.R.Congo for 6 months and am wondering if and where there are some safe places to visit. Where is the Canadian Embassy located? Is it the Canadian embassy where I would have to renew my visa while I am in the country, since a visa expires within three months of application?
