Cycling holidays in France
  • I want to go cycling in France with me and three friends. We want to be in the countryside, based in a v pretty town, with good markets and views, and then do 100km looped routes every day or so. Where is a good place to be based, and any other advice?? Thanks!
  • Bonjour, I'd go to Apt in the Luberon. Your obviously an enthusiast and the Luberon offers a great deal to the cyclist. There are easy and some quite stiff rides. For example, just outside your radius is Mount Ventoux and its foothills, quite challenging. The villages of the Luberon are in superb settings whilst you're well within range of the Basses Alpes. The food, wine and climate are also to the cyclists benefit. But go in late Spring or September, the summer is very, very hot. Getting there, fly to
Marseille (airport bus to the rail station) and take the train to Avignon (can fly to Avignon),fabulous place.

Couple of days before the end, take the train back to Marseille and then train to Cassis on the Med (about a morning's travel).Good swimming, marvellous restaurants and then cycle back to Marseille, quite a cheeky finish.
For something totally different have a look at French Pedals, a new company specialising in Normandy holidays, www.frenchpedals.co.uk

    Bonne route!!

  • Really nice information on cycling trips. Hope to do one such trip in near future.
  • Hi
Drome provencale is a great place for cycling in France. We have Mont Ventoux nearby if you really want to test your stamina and the Tour de France often passes right through our area - sometimes practically past our front door. If you don't want to bring your own bikes the garage that does my MOT rents out bikes for a reasonable rate. Check out some of the cycling blogs and photos on our site.

  • Hi

We had a fabulous holiday with Bonkersfrog/Limousin Cycling Holidays, they tailor made our loops every day so we got exactly the mileage we wanted, their farmhouse is gorgeous and very comfortable, and the food was amazing every morning we had a good breakfast and the evening meals were brilliant, the countryside was amazing, really good quiet roads, we were surprised when we saw another vehicle, loads of cows!! apparently thats what the limousin is famous for! They have a bar where the drinks are incredibly cheap so all in all we were very pleased with the holidays, definitely going back again this year.
