Advice on Golden Princess cruises - Hawaii

I will be travelling to Hawaii at the end of this year on Princess cruises. Does anyone have tips on what to take, worthwhile excursions, life on board, drinks packages etc. Also - I have entered the USA on my current passport so will I be okay (I will be boarding the ship in LA) or do i need a visa?
