I'm considering taking an overseas position in Johannesburg for six months. I will be doing independent research so will be mostly on my own. My concern are the high crime rates as I am a young, single, female. How safe is it for someone like me in this circumstance to work in South Africa? I've done some overseas traveling before, but have usually been in safer, tourist areas.
