During the past year i have been living in Santiago, Chile and its not hard to notice that it doesnt rain very much at all.

I asked several people if this area of South America is classified as a desert? And the standard responce is "No Its fertile!"

Today i googled Desert and ......Bingo .....There it was in black and white (areas with less than 10 inches or 25.4mm of average rainfall are deserts)

Second thing i googled : Rainfall Santiago.....Average rainfall is between 10 and 22mm !

Is this correct? is Santiago Chile a desert?
