Are the insects bad in Maine in summer?

Are there any insect problems in Maine in the summer? I have heard that there are a lot of insects in the summer in Maine. Is this true? I am a tourist planning to visit Maine this summer-are there any particular times when it would be better to go? Thanks in advance.
