Visas in China

We are travelling to China on a cruise ship and arrive in Shanghai in the early morning. We are transported to the airport via a tour and fly out in the pm. Do we need a visa to transfer in China as we are only there for about 8 hours.

China has some exemptions for passengers in transit. You should be able to get the definitive answer from the cruise company or tour company arranging your trip.
