Cyprus currency?

Hi
I am going to Protaras on the 2nd of May could anyone and have just recieved my tickets from Thomas Cook with the additional information to take Cypriot pounds as this is the commonest currency used.
As Cyprus joined the EU in 2005 and to my knowledge adopted the Euro is this information correct? and if so is it better to use the Cypriot Pound or the Euro when in resort? -
The Cyprus currency was changed to the Euro (EUR) on 1 January 2008.
