What Region in Africa is the Best for Sightseeing in January?
  • What area of Africa is best in January?
  • There are a number of different regions that are good in Africa in January so it really depends on what you are looking for. Some of the best places however include:
Uganda and Rwanda - a great time to go for tracking gorillas, chimpanzees and seeing the savanna game of Queen Elizabeth National Park.
Tanzania - great during January and offers a chance to see the renowned migration. During the month of January the migration is primarily in the southern plains area. The migration provides a highlight of any wildlife enthusiasts career as predators converge on the weak.
Kenya - still good for wildlife viewing although the migration has probably moved on by now.
Cape Town - is lovely during the month of January with good weather (mid to high 20 degrees Celsius), sunny and not much rain.
Depending on which tour operator you are traveling with, they should tell you the best time to visit your destination of interest. Please ensure that you do receive good quality information as this can make or break your trip.
  • East Africa is good in January as there won't be a lot of rains.Yes, as Will Bolsover has said, you can trek the Gorrillas in Rwanda or Uganda.
In Kenya, there is Nakuru and Samburu National parks which are impressive and these parks have wildlife through out the year.
In Tanzania, there is Serengeti NP and Ngorongoro crater which are rewarding because of the the wildebeest migration. That's the time they breed mostly in the Ngorongoro conservation area. You can then mix you wild life experience with different cultures of the Masai people and the Swahili people in Zanzibar.
