Trekking companies in Nepal
  • I am planning a trip to Nepal for the purpose of trekking in the mountains. I want to do a week long walk, with a guide and porters (might as well do it proper). The problem is, there are so many guides advertising their services I can't possibly tell the difference between the good, the bad and the great. Can anyone recommend me a company or guide to go with? And is it better to book once I'm there in Kathmandu or to pre0-book. any advice or tips appreciated. Namaste!
  • I have been trekked with Babu, his office is in Thamel, Kathmandu. I was satisfied with his service, everything was well-organize. He has many years of trekking experience. You may visit his company website at www.greathimalaya.com

  • If you are going in busy season and for a short visit then I would book in advance. You don't want to waste time in Kathmandu or Pokhara trying to source a guide, porter or find the right kind of company for you. If you pre-book it will take the stress out of your arrival in Nepal too. It's a really beautiful country and the mountain vistas really are an incredible sight to behold.

  • Having recently completed a 14 day visit to Nepal, to trek in the Langtang valley and to Gosainkund lakes with Responsible Adventures, I would like to highly commend this company on many unique features. As a company, high priority is given to doing the best for Nepal as well as for the trekker. Every effort was made to enable us all to be
environmentally aware, and to helps us be aware of local customs and culturally appropriate actions including advice about our clothing. We particularly enjoyed the high ratio of guides to trekkers, not only for our safety but also for the opportunity to see the sights through Nepali eyes,(which are also much better at spotting hazards, as well as
wildlife). All enjoyed sharing their good knowledge of their country.

The guides and porters are treated and paid exceptionally well. They are equipped with good quality clothing and footwear, and enjoy a respectful but friendly relationship with the founder of the company, who was our trek-leader.
All the staff speak English, porters included largely. The trek-leader has an excellent understanding of western ways, and is a great conversationalist, (and legendary singer/song-leader). He shows strong leadership, yet allowed flexibility in some re-scheduling our itinerary around our health and well-being, and also gave opportunity for an
optional higher-altitude excursion. As well as being superbly well catered to by day, we had wonderful evenings, with informative talks the first few nights, then we had several memorable singing and dancing evenings. Prior to departure, I had found Responsible Adventures great at communicating, with good planning, and they made easy arrangements for all our comforts. Extra touches included airport meet-and-greet, then an enjoyable and well-informed tour of Kathmandu, followed by an evenings entertainment with typical Nepali food.
In summary, Responsible Adventures gave us a superb experience, with the maximum diversity of experience, in a safe, enjoyable, culturally-appropriate manner. I will definitely be back for more!

  • Recently we returned from a four-day trek with a friend in the Annapurna Himalayan range. Boasting spectacular scenery, rugged terrain and extremely welcoming locals, I've never visited another place on earth like Annapurna.
Helping us get the most out of our trek was our friendly and knowledgeable guide Sanjib Adhikari, a specialist trekking guide and expedition organizer based in Thamel, the bustling heart of Kathmandu. He skillfully guided us across treacherous mountain passes, pointed out the rich variety of flora we passed and, in the evening after hiking, served our meals and played cards with us.
Knowing that there are quite a few other less capable and experienced guides than Sanjib, I'd certainly recommend him to other trekkers. His website is: www.nepalguideinfo.com

  • I had a wonderful holiday in Nepal in last year. My wife and I booked Mountain Hawk Trekking for four weeks in January 2010. Prem the owner of Mountain Hawk Trekking offered to be our guide for a short 6 day Annapurna trek followed by a 14 day Everest Base camp Trek. Prem was sensational and in a very short time was able to organise all our transport, accommodation, meals, extra clothing and porters for both treks. Prem looked after everything - all we had to do was fly into Nepal. Our holiday planning was effortless.

Prem has over 13 years experience trekking in Nepal and it shows. He had incredible knowledge of the areas we were trekking through and owing to his obvious popularity and friendship Prem was greeted enthusiastically by villagers as we passed through.
Unlike other trekkers we passed along the way, we did not get sick at all as Prem took exceptional care of both Trisha and I and was especially careful with our water and meals. There is always the risk of high altitude sickness. Other trekkers needed drugs and/or could not complete their ascent to Base camp and had to turn back, however we had no problems with altitude as once again Prem made sure that we spent sufficient time acclimatising to ensure our successful trek.

The four weeks we spent trekking with Prem in Nepal was without doubt the best holiday we have ever had. Prem provided us with professional, courteous, careful and considerate service. Unlike other larger trekking companies who had over twenty people in their group and appeared terribly overcrowded, Prem offers private one on one trekking. It was wonderful.
Seriously, if you want to go trekking in Nepal use Mountain Hawk Trekking. I have absolutely no hesitation recommending Prem and his team of professionals. In fact, we are already planing our next holiday with Prem.

    Vlad.

  • Sanjib Adikhari ist recomended 2010 by German trekkers Sabine and Frank from Berlin
The ultimate compliment for Sanjib came from fellow trekkers we met along the way who remarked how lucky we were to have a guide so personable, knowledgeable and dedicated to us and our experience. We could not have agreed with them more. *We did a 21 day Annapurna circuit, Annapurna base camp trek and Langtang Valley trek and having never trekked this length before, we were both novices. It is without a doubt, that had our guide been anyone other than Sanjib, we would not have had nearly the rich, authentic and thoroughly enjoyable experience we did. When trekking
    with Sanjib we enjoyed:
    * honest, knowledgeable and sincere discussions regarding anything from Nepal's history and current politics, local religions and culture history, to geography natural landscape and all Mountains Name
    * a sensitivity and sensibility to allow a good balance between conversation and respecting an individual or couple’s need for privacy * over 9 years of trekking guide experience
    * a respect for an individual’s desired pace and physical condition
    * an intimate knowledge of the best accommodations, tea stops and places of interest along the way, according to our own individual budget
We would highly recommend any potential trekker in Nepal to enlist the services of Sanjib Adhikari. It is without a doubt that you will be richly rewarded if you do so Trek in Nepal his contact address is: sanjib-adhikari@hotmail.com and his website : www.nepalguideinfo.com

Silvana Pagani from Italy wrote in 2011 about my experience in Nepal and recommends as guide, Sanjib Adhikari.
This year at the end of february i went in Nepal for 18 days for the second time and i did a small trekking in the Annapurna region, I went to visit Pokhara, Kathmandu, Bakthapur and Nagarkot and I saw the National Park of Chitwan and in this trip I had the pleasure to meet Sanjib Adhikari.
He is an independent trekking guide and tour operator in Nepal and he has already obtained trekking guide license from the ministry of tourism, government of Nepal.
In his work Sanjib is a person very responsible and serious, very helpful and attentive to his customers, he knows very well the mountain because he has many years of experience and is also an excellent guide for visiting the cities.
He is someone very competent in his work and always ready to find the best solution, if necessary and speaks English very well.During the trekking and the tours he will tell you many interesting things about culture, about life in the villages, mountains, history and traditions in Nepal.
The best thing is that Sanjib loves his country very much and loves his work and always manages to convey all his enthusiasm with simple ways and always with the smile. He is a very nice person and is always attentive to the needs of his customers. Sanjib is also very funny and after this experience we became a very good friend. Next year at the end of January I will return for the third time in Nepal and Sanjib will be again my guide.?
For these reasons I am very glad to report all references of Sanjib

  • Other wise Sikkim Himalaya is always an option. Try Kasturi trek, less crowded and much more pristine.
