Ski resorts near Geneva
  • Hi, which ski resorts are close to Geneva for me to ski over a weekend?
  • Chamonix is a must for you; it is near Geneva. There is also easy access via bus (alpybus.com) from Geneva airport. Definitely stay overnight in Chamonix as the drive is 1.5 hours. Chamonix is also one of the great ski resorts.
  • Think about Verbier. My friend has a BnB on the slopes - you can ski out your door to the lift. Verbier is located around 2 hours from Geneva by train. Let me know if you want details. Chamonix is also a great resort - only one hour from Geneva with great skiing, particularly for advanced skiers. For independent reviews ski resorts near Geneva see: Ski Resorts in Europe
  • The whole Portes du Soleil ski area is also close to Geneva. Resorts there include Morzine, Chatel, Les Gets, Avoriaz.

Some of the resorts are quite low so not ideal for late season skiing. More information at http://www.portesdusoleil.com/index.html
  • Here is a page which has reviews on all the main ski resorts in Europe, see Ski Resorts in Europe. The guides are written by a collection of skiers, snowboarders, and ski town enthusiasts who have a passion and love for the ski resorts they cover. And they hope they can help you enjoy them too!
  • Ski resorts near Geneva - there are quite a lot to chose from... champery, avoriaz, les diablerets and verbier are all good options. And they're all within one and a half to two hours from geneva more or less.
  • Hi Davidf
I have just come across your post about your friends B&b and am wondering if you would mind sending me the details of this as I am looking at staying in the resort in January for a week, and it would be good to go from a recommendation. Many thanks
  • Hey Anna - no prob - just go to www.chaletlechable.com and use the contact form. They'll get in touch!
  • i am thinking of going skiing with my family next year in switzerland.we are a family of 4 ages 33,40,15 and 8 and all 1st time skiiers could you recommend the best resort to suit our age range and ability, thanx
  • Marian,

Resorts vary but for family skiing I really recommend Club Med Ski villages. Completely inclusive i.e. flights, transfers, all food and drinks, group ski lessons and lift passes - just need skis! No hidden costs. I have 4, 7 and a 12 year old and Club Med is ideal for all of them. If you need advice on their villages please let me know.

  • There are so many resorts near Geneva, but it really depends on what kind of resort you're after. Chamonix for lively resorts or maybe La Chapelle d’Abondance for a small mountain village.
  • allo...

would early november be ideal to visit chamonix?

just wanna experience skiing for the first time...

    brgds,
  • The lifts in Chamonix fully open from mid december, but some open partially from mid november but only for weekends and depending on snow conditions. So i dont think it would be worth going to be honest.
  • Ski resort transfer times from Geneva are approximate and subject to weather and traffic conditions. A hire car on a clear, dry road may be quicker; a transfer bus in a queue on a snowy road may take significantly longer.
  • Skiing and other winter sports are famous in Geneva. Chamonix Ski Resort would be the best for your skiing activities.
  • The best ski resorts near Geneva are Chamonix (1 hour) and Verbier (2 hours) in my view. There are others but for serious skier Verbier and Chamonix /Argentiere are great.
  • The really best ski resort near Geneva (and probably in the world) is Les 3 Vall
  • Hi my husband and I have 72 hours in Geneva starting 21 Feb 12 and would like to ski for 2 days. We will be renting a car and driving. What would you recommend. We are both good skiers, early 50's. Thanks
