Bet Giorgis is the most remarkable of the Lalibela churches, a near perfect cube cut in the shape of a cross and set within a deep pit that is reached via a tunnel chiselled into the rock. The roof decoration, with its relief of three Greek crosses inside each other, is the most photographed representation of the Lalibela monuments.
