Huaraz is the most important hiking and climbing centre in Peru and is situated at the foot of the Cordillera Blanca mountain range at an altitude of over 10,000ft (3,000m). Surrounded by snow-capped mountains and icy blue lakes, it has earned the moniker the ‘Switzerland of Peru’.
