Cape Town has some great beaches, but the most easily accessible are on the Atlantic Ocean where the water is unbelievably cold. Clifton's four beaches, imaginatively called 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th, are situated beneath exclusive houses and apartments set into the cliff that protects sunbathers from the harsh southwesterly wind. Fourth beach is the most popular and is frequented by well-toned locals.
