Colombo Airport

Bandaranaike International Airport (CMB)

The only international airport in Sri Lanka, Colombo Bandaranaike Airport is located in Katunayake, 20 miles (32km) outside of Colombo. The primary base for Sri Lankan Airlines and budget carrier Mihin Lanka, most flights to Colombo Bandaranaike Airport come from various cities in India as well as destinations in Asia, the Middle East, and Europe.

The facilities at Colombo Bandaranaike Airport are basic but good, including hot showers and porter services, and a good selection of duty-free shops. There is only one restaurant, however passengers can relax in air-conditioned day rooms to beat the heat.

While the airport itself is fairly pleasant, most travellers report a stressful experience taking public transport into Colombo, and first-time visitors are advised to spend the extra money for a private taxi.

The airport is situated 20 miles (32km) from the city of Colombo.
